Window vista command prompt – General Failure

Window vista command prompt showing General Failure

In this post I would like to share with you regarding error message: GENERAL FAILURE, when you try to ping on command prompt, e.g. ping default gateway

e.g. 192.168.1.1 (depend on your default gateway)

Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:

General failure.
General failure.
General failure.
General failure.

Ping statistics for 10.10.3.2:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)

When you received the above result, it some short like you network adapter is not working properly , no worry go further step which you can try to ping the loopback address: 127.0.0.1

127.0.0.1 -Loop back address that exists on every computer. For you to test whether you network adaptor is working?

Pinging 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms ttl="128

Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms ttl="128

Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms ttl="128

Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms ttl="128

Ping statistics for 127.0.0.1:

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

If you found that is working (Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0) means non-thing wrong with you network adapter.

This could be due to setting on the computer or software that you just install which not compatible

For my past experience, what I do is, I turn off my anti-virus then It work

anti-virus i'm using at the moment is McAfee- firewall

If you are using other anti-virus you also can temporary turn it off / temporary disable it , this is only to isolate whether this is due to anti-virus or not.
